Overview

FingersTune uses main-window-based concept like iTunes. Almost all User Interface elements appear in a single window. Only some short messages may appear in a separate window.

Main window

Main Window contains of three general parts:

Tools panel

Main Window contains of these elements:

  • Get for iPhone button: When you click it, FingersTune for iPhone page will be opened in iTunes App Store.
  • New button: When you click it, a new melody will be created and placed in the Local Melodies tab.
  • Import button: When you click it, a standard system File Selection window will be opened. You should choose a FingersTune or Ocarina Pitcher *.pitch file to be imported.
  • Publish button: When you click it, the Publish Window will be opened.
  • Print button: When you click it, a standard system Print window will be opened.
  • Play button: When you click it, current melody will start playing. Another click will stop playing.
  • Volume Control slider: It simply controls the application volume.

Melody Properties panel

Melody Properties panel contains of these elements:

  • Melody Title field.
  • Melody Root combo box.
  • Melody Instrument combo box.

All these controls apply to the current melody only.

Templates panel

The Templates Panel partly contains 3 octaves (16 note buttons) plus a Space button.

  • First octave: E(Mi), F(Fa), G(Sol), A(La), B(Si)
  • Second octave: C(Do), D(Re), E(Mi), F(Fa), G(Sol), A(La), B(Si)
  • Third octave: C(Do), D(Re), E(Mi), F(Fa)
  • Space – used to make a silent pause between notes

C(Do)2 button always corresponds to a note selected as the melody root. You can shift all the notes by choosing any value different from C(Do) as the melody root.
For instance:

  • If the melody root is C, first four buttons correspond to the folowing notes E(Mi)1, F(Fa)1, G(Sol)1, A(La)1 …
  • If the melody root is D-sharp/E-flat, first four buttons correspond to the folowing notes G(Sol)#/A(La)♭1, A(La)1, A(La)#1/B(Si)♭1, C(Do)2 …

Usage:

  1. Single click on a note button to select and play a note.
  2. Select a note on the Editor panel to set a position for a new note. Then double tap on a note button to insert the note into the Editor panel.

Editor panel

The Editor Panel is for composing melody from notes. The notes can be placed here from Templates Panel.

Usage:

  1. Single click on a note button to select and play a note.
  2. Select a note to set a position for a new note. Then double tap on a note button on the Templates panel to insert the note after the selected note.
  3. Double click on a note button to delete the note.

Melodies panel

The Melodies Panel provide you with lists of Local, Online and Downloading melodies.

You can hide or resize it. To hide it click the Hide Melodies button or drag its upper border to its downer border. To resize it just drag its upper border up or down.

To switch between Local, Online and Downloading tabs click an appropriate button on the Melodies Switch.

Local Melodies tab

Here is the list of your local melodies. The list contains Title, Root and Instrument columns.
When you select an item in the list, the melody which is represented by the item will be loaded in the Editor panel.

Items in the Local Melodies panel can be filtered. Just type an expression in the Filter field. Filter applies to the Title of the items.
Also you can delete the item you’ve selected. Click Delete Item button.

Online Melodies tab

Here is the list of online melodies that exist on the Web Service(FingersTune.com) under a specified category. The list contains Title, Root, Instrument, Created, Author and Rating columns. To select a different category, Click Categories combo box, then click on the category you need.

Items in the Local Melodies panel can be filtered. Just type an expression in the Filter field. Filter applies to the Title and Author of the items.
Also you can download the item you’ve selected. Click Downloads Item button. The process of downloads can be viewed on the Downloading Melodies tab.

Downloading Melodies tab

Here is the list of melodies that is currently downloaded or already downloaded from the Web Service(FingersTune.com). The list contains Title, State and Progress columns.

Items in the Downloading Melodies panel can be filtered. Just type an expression in the Filter field. Filter applies to the Title of the items.
Also you can Stop and Resume download process of selected item. Use appropriate buttons.
Clean button removes items that are finished downloading.

Publish window

Write some description and select one or more cadegories. Then click Publish button. The selected melody will be published with shown given description in selected categories on the Web Service (FingersTune.com)

Preferences window

Preferences window contains two tabs: Basic Options and Personal Settings.

Basic Options allows to Enable update checks. And a period to check updates.

In Personal Settings tab you can set your username and password, then check connection by clicking Connect button.

Registration only available on the Web Service (FingersTune.com). But click Register button to open the registration page in your web browser.
