Overview


FingersTune uses tab-based concept. Which means you use navigate between views switching tabs in the tab-bar in the bottom of the screen. Also some views has instrument bars. They implement current view specific features. Content is placed between the two bars.

Home Tab


Home Tab views a list of your local melodies. There is an instrument bar on top of the screen. It contains several buttons:

  1. New Melody – Asks you for a title of the new melody, then creates it.
  2. Delete – Deletes currently selected melody.
  3. Publish – Opens the Publish View.
  4. Import – Opens the Import View.
  5. Import – Opens the Settings View.
  6. About – Opens the About View.

Settings View


Settings View allows you to set username and password which will be used while interacting with the Web Service (FingersTune.com).

Also you can set wether to use the Training mode or not.

Publish View


Publish View helps you publish a melody from your local melodies to the Web Service (FingersTune.com).

  1. Just write some description to the melody you’ve selected.
  2. Then select one or more categories in which you want your melody to be assigned.
  3. And finally Publish it.

Tap the Hide Keyboard button if you finished typing in the Description field.
And tap the Refresh button if the list of categories couldn’t be loaded for some reason.
You can always cancel Publishing process. Just tap Cancel button.

Import View


Import View helps you download melodies from the Web Service (FingersTune.com) to your Local Melodies storage. So you will be able learn them anytime.
Here is the usage pocess:

  1. Wait a bit while the list of categories and the list of melodies will be loaded.
  2. Then select the category you’re interested in.
  3. Navigate and tap on melody you want to download.
  4. Tap on Download button.

You can download multiple melodies by selecting and downloading them one by one.
You can sort melodies by Date, Rating, Titles or by Author.
You can filter melodies.

Pitch tab


Pitch Tab lets you manage current melody properties. Here you can change title of the melody.
Set a root and instrument to be used while editind and playing the melody.

Editor tab


Editor Tab is used to compose the selected melody. It consists of two parts:

  1. The Templates Panel
  2. And the Melody Panel

The Templates Panel partly contains 3 octaves (16 note buttons) plus a Space button.

  • First octave: E(Mi), F(Fa), G(Sol), A(La), B(Si)
  • Second octave: C(Do), D(Re), E(Mi), F(Fa), G(Sol), A(La), B(Si)
  • Third octave: C(Do), D(Re), E(Mi), F(Fa)
  • Space – used to make a silent pause between notes

C(Do)2 button always corresponds to a note selected as the melody root. You can shift all the notes by choosing any value different from C(Do) as the melody root.
For instance:

  • If the melody root is C, first four buttons correspond to the folowing notes E(Mi)1, F(Fa)1, G(Sol)1, A(La)1 …
  • If the melody root is D-sharp/E-flat, first four buttons correspond to the folowing notes G(Sol)#/A(La)♭1, A(La)1, A(La)#1/B(Si)♭1, C(Do)2 …

Usage:

  1. Single tap on a note button on the Templates panel or the Melody panel to select and play the note.
  2. Select a note on the Melody panel to set a position for a new note. Then double tap on a note button on the Templates Panel to insert the note into the Melody panel.
  3. Double tap on a note button on the Melody panel to delete the note.

Player tab


FingersTune is built around the Player. So Player is a core of the game.

There are four pitch buttons and a play button. When you press the play button the application plays the note forming it according to the melody root, melody instrument and a combination of the pitch buttons states. More info on sound forming is Here.

When you press the Start Training button it waits for 5 seconds while place your fingers in a correct place and get ready. Then it draws yellow rings around the buttons you need to tap to form the needed sound for each note of the melody. When applications shows a next note it flashes the screen.
